Husky Hip Dysplasia

Hip dysplasia is a genetic condition where the hip socket doesn't fully cover the ball of the femur, leading to joint instability and arthritis.

Symptoms

  • Difficulty rising from sitting or lying
  • Reluctance to jump, run, or climb stairs
  • Bunny-hopping gait
  • Limping or favoring one leg
  • Decreased activity

Diagnosis

X-rays under sedation. PennHIP or OFA evaluation for breeding dogs.

Prevention

  • Choose breeders who OFA-test parents
